Obama’s new infrastructure plan: By the numbers

With the midterm elections nearing and unemployment hovering just under 10 percent, President Obama has proposed a one-year $50 billion investment in America’s transportation infrastructure to spur the economy and create jobs. The Empire State Building’s ‘ugly’ twin

New York City has approved the construction of a skyscraper just blocks away from the Empire State Building that will tower almost to the beloved icon’s height. The Empire State Building’s owners petitioned the city not to approve the rival tower, claiming it would diminish the status of New York’s most famous skyscraper. Despite its planning victory, 15 Penn Plaza is unlikely to be built for several years. Should it be built at all? (See the view from the top of the Empire State Building)

This building will ruin New York’s iconic skyline: “What an example of shortsightedness,” says Jon Gethner in a letter published in The New York Times. This “ill-considered plan” is the greatest affront to the city since the old Penn Station was torn down. “Anyone who sees the inspiring skyline” when approaching from New Jersey “cannot help but weep” at this proposal. Responsible Entities for Managed Investment Schemes

The concept of managed investment schemes was outlined in July 1998, by the Managed Investments Act (Cth)(Act), and has been defined as a scheme in which people contribute money to acquire interest to benefits produced by the scheme.

The contributions are used to further the scheme, and the members do not have control over the day to day operations.

The Managed Investments Act (Cth)(Act) replaces the old “prescribed interests” regime, and its most significant change is the replacement of the roles of trustee and manager with the single Responsible Entity role.
